DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION COMPETITION

Members are invited to design and make a Diamond Jubilee congratulations card, in any medium.  The winning entry will be sent from the Federation, with our congratulations to Her Majesty The Queen.  All entries to be sent to WI House by 23 April 2012.  All cards entered will be displayed at the Diamond Jubilee luncheon.

SWIMMING FOR WI MEMBERS

Penrith Leisure Centre have offered all WIs in the area the chance to have a dedicated WI swimming session between 2.15 to 3.00pm on Mondays, in term time, starting on Monday 9 January 2012 until Monday 26 March (except Monday 13 February when it will be half term).  The charge is the normal entry of £1.95 for those over 60 who are not working or £3.15 for anyone else.  It will be possible to organise the pool so that there is a lane for those who want to swim lengths, an area for those who want a social swim and another area where “gentle” instruction can be given.  Help will be available for those uncertain about getting into the water and a hoist is available for anyone who is disabled.  The swimming instruction will be given free by a WI member.  It is also possible that aqua aerobics could be offered either at the end of each session or say once a month, for which there would need to be an additional small charge.  The session will be fully life guarded.

If you are interested in coming swimming please let Jane Jones know (01768 881839).

Our Federation now has its own special rose named 'Cumberland Beauty' which has been commissioned in celebration of our 90th year. This beautiful rose is a tough, vigorous, pink floribunda of medium height. It is easy to grow with good disease resistance.

GIFT AID

Don't forget to apply to the Charity Commission at Bootle for your Gift Aid pack, requesting a registration reference number.   You don't need to send a copy of your WI constitution, or your charity registration number if you don't have one, or if you have recently de-registered as advised by NFWI.   Just send them details of your WI, when and where it meets and how many members you currently have.

Gift Aid can make a huge difference to the finances of your WI, so it is well worth some initial work on the part of your Treasurer as you can claim back 28p from every subscription.

If you want to claim back for the full six years, do it before April 2010, otherwise you can only claim back for the preceding four years.
