Membership Support Sub-Committee
What we do

A team of WI Advisers, plus some trainees, whose responsibility it is to open new WIs and further the work of the WI in Cumbria. This is achieved by working with WIs, offering friendship, guidance and support as required. Training workshops are organised for WI Officers and Committee members from time to time. Encouraging women to become members and promoting the WI generally are important parts of their work.

A message from the Chairman
Hello, welcome to our page on the Cumbria-Cumberland website. This sub-committee comprises 5 WI Advisers, 2 WI Adviser trainees and 4 Federation Officers. As our County covers a large area, we are kept busy visiting many WIs, answering their queries or concerns and sharing their joy when something has turned out really well. Some WIs have benefitted from the suspension of others, as membership has increased and brought new ideas. In 2008 we were all delighted to form a WI on a new housing estate in Carlisle. Neighbours have now become firm friends, sharing a desire to learn more and make a difference to their environment. Their membership continues to grow and they have some new and innovative ideas.
Our remit is to introduce new members to our influential and wonderful organisation as well as inform and encourage existing members through workshops, visits and resolution meetings. We take up the challenge with enthusiasm.
Chairman: Jennifer Baker
Update on Committee's work - January 2010
Hello everyone,
2009 has been a busy year for the Membership Support Sub Committee. As well as organising the resolution meetings in the county, we have regrouped the WIs in the linking list to average out the numbers in each group. This will be used when delegates are sought for the 2010 AGM which will be held in Cardiff. We also continue to visit WIs offering help and encouragement when needed.
In November we held the annual Group Convenors Meeting in WI House. Ideas flowed thick and fast as Convenors shared their organisation skills, recommending a particular speaker which had resulted in a successful group meeting for them. This meeting is always a useful tool for picking up ideas that have been tried and tested and often gives confidence to a new Convenor. We support each other.
2010 will be a very exciting year for the Cumbria Cumberland Federation as we celebrate our 90th birthday. The Board of Trustees have planned a wide and varied programme beginning in March with an Archive Exhibition which will be held in WI House. Do come and see how everything started. You might recognise a relative.
We five WI Advisers will be joined next summer by our two trainees as they complete their training. Some of you have met Sue Hinde and Margaret Plank as they accompany us to gain experience and get to know you all. Thank you to everyone who has extended the hand of friendship, the all important factor in our wonderful organisation.
