Performing Arts & Sport Sub-Committee

What we do

This newly amalgamated sub-committee will join together to organise enjoyable participatory activities for members.  From singing, acting, dancing, or learning a musical instrument, to bowls, golf, dart competitions and rambles. They’re brimming with ideas and enthusiasm for anything from theatre trips, workshops and competitions to the organisation of the carol service.

Performing Arts Sub-Committee Report for 2010

Our committee are very grateful for the support of you, the members, who have helped make our events successful.

We had a lovely evening when members brought along their written stories to read at our Story Telling evening.  Later in the year we held a Poetry and Pastries afternoon and again members had been busy writing their poems and we heard them read; this again was most enjoyable.

In the summer, along with the other sub-committees, we put on a display of some or our work at Tullie House.

Unfortunately, our Carol Service, arranged to be held in Cockermouth, had to be cancelled because of the bad weather but we hope to have the Carol Service in 2011 at Cockermouth.

My thanks to all members of this committee who have worked and continue to work hard to make this committee work.

Sport Sub-Committee Report for 2010

The year began with Team Darts; Santon Bridge WI were the winners of the final held at Wigton Bowling Club, with Cummersdale the runners-up.  Cumwhinton WI member, T Watt, had the highest score in the first round with 130.

In April members enjoyed Ten Pin Bowling at the Eclipse, Workington.

Hoopla, Treasure Hunt and Hole-in-One Golf were organised for members to try at the Birthday Celebrations held at Greenhill Hotel in July.  We attended Tullie House with our Sports display in August.

In September, members played golf, and a walk was organised by Thornthwaite cum Braithwaite WI.

The winners of the Darts Pairs were Kirkbride WI, with Gamblesby WI the runners-up at the final held at Wigton Bowling Club in November.

Due to the first snow of the winter, the short mat bowling had to be cancelled.

Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported these events throughout the year.
